2,500 Food Boxes soon on their way to families in need

April 19, 2023

In distressed communities in Appalachia and elsewhere in the U.S., children, families, and senior citizens are going hungry every day – stretching their food budgets until they break as rent and utility bills must take priority over putting food on the table.

That’s why Americans Helping Americans®, thanks to our supporters, each year ships thousands of boxes containing nonperishable food items to our grassroots partners for distribution to the most needy in their communities.

We are working on making another shipment in May of 2,500 food boxes to our partners in Pensacola, Florida, Gainesville, Georgia, Beattyville, Kentucky, Clinton, Maryland, Jefferson City, Tennessee, and War, West Virginia – each box containing enough food to feed a family of four for days.

Items in the upcoming shipment include canned chicken breast, tuna, salmon, beef stew, vegetables and soup, fruit cocktail, pasta, dried beans, rice, peanut butter, and cereal.

Among our partners which regularly request food boxes for their community, and who will be receiving hundreds of food boxes in the shipment, is Big Creek People in Action (BCPIA) in War, reports how grateful the recipients of food boxes are at their distribution events or when they stop by its pantry for emergency food.

“The food boxes we received were much needed by the community,” states BCPIA co-executive director Dyanne Spriggs. “We get a limited amount of food from a food bank, but it’s not always enough to serve all the people a decent food box.

“We love it when we get extra food boxes from Americans Helping Americans® so we can serve more hungry families.”
