Within the next few weeks, thanks to the supporters of Americans Helping Americans® we will be shipping 2,500 food boxes to our partners in Florida, Georgia, Kentucky, Maryland, Tennessee, and West Virginia to distribute to the most needy in their communities.

The food boxes, valued at $36 each, will contain canned chicken breast, canned tuna and salmon, canned soups, fruit and vegetables, egg noodles, mashed potatoes, lentils, rice, peanut butter and more – enough for feed a family of four for a week or more.

“I worked with the partners to determine what foods meet the needs of their community as well,” said Americans Helping Americans® Executive Director Cameron Krizek.

Each of our nine partners will be receiving between 150 and 450 food boxes, among them Big Creek People in Action (BCPIA) in McDowell County, West Virginia, which receives food boxes from Americans Helping Americans® throughout the year and will be receiving 300 more soon.

BCPIA co-executive director Dyanne Spriggs reported recently that they regularly get requests from the most needy families in the distressed county, so she was pleased to learn that they would be receiving more food boxes soon for a distribution event they are hosting in March.

She explained, “We get a limited amount of food each month from the U.S. Department of Agriculture, but we have to purchase the food we get from the Mountaineer Food Bank at a slightly reduced cost.

“It takes all of that food to try to serve our regular customers at the pantry.”

And she wanted the supporters of Americans Helping Americans® to know that they are making a big difference in her small, tight-knit community.

“It’s always nice to get the food boxes from you all because then we can maybe tie it to an event we’re having and be able to serve lots of people.”
