This month, we would like to acknowledge David Brown as the recipient of the Americans Helping Americans® Helper of the Month award! Congratulations, David!
David has been volunteering with our partner, Appalachian Outreach for over 7 years. From picking up grocery donations and food orders to driving AO’s dump trucks, forklifts, and even their lawnmower, Ministry Center Coordinator Karrie Foust says, “Without his help, we would not be able to keep our food pantry running.”
David also fills a very important role in with the organization’s Home Repair program, which our supporters help make possible. As the Volunteer Home Assessor, David goes out to meet with families once they have submitted their applications and does the first assessment of their homes.
In addition, David has volunteered so many hours that new volunteers often think he is a staff person. While David could have stayed at home once the COVID-19 pandemic began to spread in Tennessee, he continued to come in daily and provides food for the families in need.
He is ALWAYS helping someone with something.
“He is the type of person that you can call no matter what and he will help and he always does it with a smile and a happy attitude. You know when David enters a room because he is always smiling and he speaks to everyone in the room. I do not think he has ever met a stranger, says Karrie
