Supporting our Veterans over the Holidays

November 7, 2024

Through Americans Helping Americans® Veterans Housing Support (VHS) program, formerly unhoused veterans in Fairfax County, Virginia, are provided with affordable housing and comprehensive support services as they rebuild their lives.

As we understand that the holidays can be hard for veterans who may not have family or friends to celebrate with during the Thanksgiving and Christmas season, we are working to ensure they don’t feel lonely and left out.

The program will be providing bus passes, food boxes, help with groceries, Uber transportation (for doctor’s appointments, emergencies, job interviews), help with utility bills, and even gift cards for Thanksgiving and Christmas dinners.

In addition, those in the program with children will receive Christmas toys and clothes, making sure that “Santa” doesn’t pass them by. Children will also receive winter coats and shoes.

But the support doesn’t end there. Two veterans in the program will soon receive assistance for dental care. Another veteran, a victim of domestic violence, will receive support with legal costs related to ending her relationship.

Our Commitment to Veterans

As a nonprofit organization founded by a veteran, the late Col. Eugene “Gene” Krizek (USAF Ret.), Americans Helping Americans® is committed to providing veterans with a pathway towards rebuilding their lives through secure housing and access to a network of comprehensive support services in the community in which they live.

With the mission:

“To break the cycle of homelessness by supporting diversity, equity, and inclusion and empowering veterans experiencing housing insecurity to rebuild their lives.”

Our vision is to create a more compassionate world that focuses on caring for and supporting veterans toward their journey to rebuild their lives.
