Volunteers repairing Appalachian home with new siding and insulation

A look at the impact we have made in 2024 on the lives of children, families, and the Appalachian communities they live in.

December 27, 2024

The mission of Americans Helping Americans is to join communities, build and strengthen neighbor relations, and work side by side with local residents to address community-wide concerns linking them to the resources supportive of a healthy, safe, and economically vibrant standard of living.

For nearly 40 years, we have worked to better the lives of those living in the most impoverished Appalachian communities.  2024 was no different, and the impact is measurable.

We provided for food needs, both for the immediate and longer term.

  • Over 10,000 food boxes, each providing meals for a family of four for a week
  • 3,000 Holiday meals

We supported education.

  • From providing over 3,000 school supply kits to children
  • After school programming for hundreds of children
  • Expansion of the Want2Work program, providing vocational education support to over 650 high school students.

We provided warmth for the harsh winters.

  • We provided thousands of winter coats and blankets, and provided utility and rent assistance to over 1,500 individuals to avoid utility shutoffs.

We helped when help was most needed.

  • In 2024, we provided $500,000 in aid to support communities affected by Hurricane Helene.   “We are most appreciative and so blessed to have Americans Helping Americans® in our communities’ lives. God bless Americans Helping Americans.”
