Their Vision is Our Inspiration

August 20, 2024

A vision board is generally a collage of words and images that represents a person’s goals, notes ABC News.

“It translates your dreams and aspirations into tangible images, fostering motivation to work towards them,” reports ABC.

We reached out to our partners last year to encourage them to incorporate vision boards in the afterschool programming. We know that it is essential for the children in these low-income areas of Appalachia to have goals and dream big. Our goal is to help facilitate their future.

Among them is LAMP Ministries in Gainesville, Georgia, which recently requested the children in its afterschool program to write what they want to be when they grow up on a poster board.

“When I Grow up, I want to be a singer,” says Aliana.

“What’s your BIG dream?? Artist Painter,” says Salma.

“My Big Dream is a soccer player,” says one young boy.

“I want bee Thirapist,” says young Sophia.

Americans Helping Americans® spends a lot of effort in bettering the lives of the youth in these communities however they aren’t allowed to vote, or advocate for policy, and when people talk about bringing back jobs in the area, they aren’t asking the kids what jobs they would want to have when they grow up.  So, we were interested in learning about their dream for their future. We wanted to make sure that someone was asking them what they wanted out of life. And even, we were curious if their dream job could even become a future AHA program.

Americans Helping Americans supports partners throughout Appalachia and their after-school programming, enabling children to dream, aspire, and have a vision for their future. As the school year begins, we are eager to learn and see how the visions of so many children come to fruition.
